01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

SPAIN bar Caliente serves authentic Spanish cuisine centered on its seafood paella, where rice is cooked in a flavorful stock coaxed from generous portions of European lobster. Beyond this marine classic, the paella selection extends to a deep squid ink version and a duck paella that combines porcini-infused rice with tender roasted duck.

For a meat centerpiece, the signature lamb chops are an essential order, delivered fresh from New Zealand without ever being frozen. Seared until aromatic and juicy, the meat has a mild flavor that appeals even to those hesitant about lamb. Warm plates and tapas complement the spread, including house-recipe spiced sausages, Galician-style octopus, and Spanish-style fried potatoes topped with piquant bravas sauce.

The drinks list is equally comprehensive, pairing naturally with the menu through Estrella Galicia draft lager shipped from northwestern Spain and light, house-made sangria. Rotating glasses of orange wine and natural wine sit alongside a seasonal sake list curated by a certified sommelier and an extensive craft gin lineup, offering plenty of freedom to match each plate with a different pour.

Converted from an early Showa-era traditional house, the space is defined by an open, high-ceilinged atrium and warm wood textures. It accommodates casual solo visits at the counter as easily as group course dinners. Daily in-house baked Basque cheesecake and crema catalana provide a relaxed conclusion to an evening meal.
